Happy Friday, neighbors 🐻
Here's the shape of the weekend: Friday's genuinely quiet — nothing on any of the three town calendars — so Saturday carries it, and it's a good one. A night market with a full-on dog theme, a free back-to-school supply swap, and then on Sunday the very last summer concert in RSM. Here's your five minutes.
📅 This weekend
Friday 8/14 — nothing official on the calendars. A good night to actually sit on your own patio.
Saturday 8/15 — this is the day. It all clusters at the North Paseo lot at Los Osos (25282 Marguerite Pkwy) in Mission Viejo:
🥬 MV Farmers Market & Crafts, 9am–1pm — the usual Saturday haul.
🎒 Back-to-School Supply Swap, 10am–noon at the Mission Viejo Library — free, walk-in. Bring what you've outgrown, take what you need.
🐾 Pet-a-Palooza Night Market, 5–9pm, back at the same lot — free, dogs welcome, with a Mission Viejo Animal Services booth. Bring the leash.
Sunday 8/16 — split across the other two towns:
🍑 Ladera Ranch farmers market, 9am–1pm at 28275 Avendale.
🔧 Repair Café OC, 1–5pm at the Murray Center — free, walk-in. Wobbly chair, dead lamp, torn bag: their volunteer fixers will take a crack at it.
🎶 RSM's final Summer Concert, 4–8pm at Central Park — Typical Gypsys open (4–5:30), Diego's Garage close it out (6–8). Free and public, plus the RSM Cares art exhibit and the Dreamers Market. Last one of the year, so send it off right.
🍴 Open & shut
🍺 Now open: Mac's Tavern has taken over the old Costello's space at 27567 Puerta Real (the Target center) in MV. Beef on weck, burgers, wings, pizza, and live music most weekends — a proper neighborhood tavern back in that corner.
👀 Still coming: The Goldfinch (California plates + a real cocktail program) now has its own page up for the RSM location at 22312-A El Paseo — but it's still "coming soon," no date yet. We'll flag opening day when it lands.
💬 Around town
Where each town lets you off leash. Since Saturday's night market is all about the dogs, here's the map — and the fine print that trips people up:
RSM — the Antonio Parkway dog park is free and open to anyone.
Mission Viejo — La Paws Dog Park, also free and public.
Ladera Ranch — Wagsdale is the nice one, but it's residents only: you need a LARMAC access card to get in. Worth knowing before you drive over.
💎 One good thing
The Ladera Ranch Library (29551 Sienna Pkwy) is one of the most underused gems out here — and unlike so much in Ladera, it needs no HOA card. Any California resident can get a free card. It runs a "Library of Things" — instruments, tech, toys, kitchen gear you can borrow — plus a laptop kiosk. One catch: it's closed both Friday and Sunday, so Saturday's your window this weekend.
🗒️ Good to know
School's back sooner than the weather suggests: CUSD starts Tuesday 8/18, SVUSD starts Thursday 8/20.
That's the week. Reply and tell us: your dog's name and the loop you actually walk — we'll map the neighborhood's favorite routes.
