Happy Friday, neighbors 🐻

It's peak summer in the canyon, which means the parks fill up the second the sun drops. This weekend gives you three free concerts across all three towns, a new café soft-opening in RSM, and the ice cream window that saves us all in July. Here's your five minutes.

📅 This weekend

Friday night, pick your patio. Two summer concerts kick off at the same hour — take your pick by town:

  • Mission ViejoTijuana Dogs bring the party to Concerts on the Green, 6–8pm at the Norman P. Murray Center (24932 Veterans Way). Free, with food trucks, beer & wine for purchase, and free bounce houses for the kids. Bring a low chair or blanket; leave the pups home.

  • Ladera Ranch — the James Kelly Band plays the Town Green (28801 Sienna Pkwy), 6:30–8:30pm. Classic community concert vibe — chairs and blankets can go out starting 7am Friday.

Sunday, close out the weekend in RSM. Pistol Blonde takes the Central Park amphitheater stage 6–8pm — free and open to all, with the Rotary del Sol beer & wine garden and food trucks. Easily the best-value date night in town.

Markets, as always:

🍴 Open & shut

It's finally happening: Redshift Coffee Roasters — the beloved Lake Forest roaster — is soft-open now at Plaza El Paseo in RSM (22312-C El Paseo), pouring 7am–2pm daily. Same house-roasted beans and breakfast that built the original's following.

And next door, The Goldfinch (California plates + a real cocktail program) is still on track for that same El Paseo corner later this summer — we'll flag opening day when it lands.

💬 Around town

The concert everyone keeps asking about. If you've seen the Lake Mission Viejo lineup floating around — yes, it's the big one. Up next: Rachel Platten, Saturday July 25 at 7pm on North Beach (with the Fabulous Thunderbirds Aug 8 and The Band Perry Aug 22 to come).

The catch, and it trips up a lot of folks: these shows are members + invited guests only. Members get in with their physical Lake ID; if you're not a member, your only way through the gate is as a member's guest — up to 4 per household, $20 a pass, and you have to walk in with them. No public tickets, no exceptions. Know a Lake member? Now's the time to call in a favor.

💎 One good thing

Handel's Homemade Ice Cream (30622 Santa Margarita Pkwy, RSM). The line out the door tells you everything, but the play is a scoop after the Sunday concert — they're open till 10pm. It's been named one of the best ice creams in America more than once, and on a 90° evening it more than earns the wait.

That's the week. Reply and tell us: what's your go-to order at Handel's (or your favorite scoop spot in town)? We'll share the neighborhood's picks.

Know someone who'd love OSO? Forward this along — every share helps us stay oh-so local. 🐻
